They knew about it for years, there were free betas and they only sent one C&D after Bombergames decided they had reached an ostensible final release. The way I had interpreted it in this case was SEGA simply making a show of protecting their trademark on an IP. I highly recommend it for anyone who enjoys Streets of Rage. But the game is out there, it's free, and if you're gonna give it a try look for the 5.2 version for the widescreen support. I will not provide any links because I am not sure if this is allowed here, since the game was made by fans and by what I have read it is unsupported by Sega. Also, despite of using the old sprites, the game has some new effects that makes it look quite good sometimes, such as reflexes and some blood splashes depending on the weapon you're attacking with. It has native widescreen support, achievements, and by what I have read it also seems to have improved AI compared to the prior versions - which I can't really tell cause I never played the prior versions before, although the AI is indeed way better compared to the classics. I played the version 5.2, which I believe is the last one. In the cheats menu are some interesting stuff which can add some fun to it, such as making every enemy explode after being defeated, or making all swords become light sabers, or making it possible to carry your weapon to the next scenario instead of dropping it if you manage to keep it, but the cheats will also make you lose some of your cash by the end of the run. One of the most interesting unlockables from the shop is the CPU friend mode, which you can play with a CPU instead of a friend - I have tried it a little bit, and it seems that overall the CPU plays pretty well, will definitely play more with it later. The shop is only accessible after you beat the game once. o/Īlso, during the game you can collect many treasures that are dropped by the enemies you defeat, and after the game is over you cash their value in and can use this cash in the shop to buy new characters, new modes or cheats. But after attempting the same route 3 times, I managed to beat it without using any continue, and even got an achievement for that. It is considerably more difficult than Streets of Rage 4 and you need to finish it pretty much in one sit, although you have the option to press F12 to quit the game and "save state", which will allow you to come back to it from the the last checkpoint with the amount of lives you had when you reached it (happens every time you change scenario). You can, for example, allow the use of guns or not, change the special system to the SoR2 system (you always lose life and have a timer), SoR3 system (no timer and a special gauge) or Both system (special gauge and timer), you have the option to allow the weapon carry system from SoR2 (weapons don't break but you can't carry enemies holding them) or SoR3 (weapons break, but you can carry enemies holding them), among many other options. All of this makes the game variety and replayability incredibly high. It also blends levels, enemies and bosses from the 3 streets of rage games, it also adds some new levels and scenarios that were not preset in the classics. The game features multiple routes, and during each route you can also choose different paths, which will lead you to different stages and facing different enemies and bosses. Last night, after some frustrated attempts before that, I finally managed to finish the game once and unlock the shop! \o/įor those who never played it, I highly recommend to.
